La Literatura - Written Culture

 Virtual Spain

Here is a comprehensive website for famous Spanish literature.  It is best suited for advanced classes, though due to the variety of forms of literature, some of the material could be used for intermediate classes.  It has everything from short love poems of the middle ages translated into simplified Spanish to biographies of authors in the period of modernism.  Many authors are listed without websites, so for teachers who love this kind of material, you might want to find new authors in the list to read and share with students.

  1. I'm sure you have a huge amount of resources on Spanish literature, but just in case you haven't seen these, I'd like to share them with you. In studying Spanish, I found three books really useful:
1)El Alquimista by Paulo Coelho. This book was very interesting and beautiful and it was also a pretty read-able book when I was at an intermediate level of Spanish.

2)Voces de Hispanoamerica, an anthology compiled by Raquel Chang-Rodriquez and Malve E. Filer. There are so many absolutely amazing poems and short stories in this book. My professor particularly chose some that gave us some insight into society in Latin America in different periods. I especially recommend the poems and stories by Delmira Agustini, Juan Rulfo, and Julio Cortazar.

    3) The class I just mentioned inspired a love for Julio Cortazar's work in me. A book entitled La autopista del sur y otros cuentos has so many excellent stories, especially the La autopista del sur.
